New Initiative Connects Entrepreneurs Who Are Hiring With Job Seekers

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says Human Connections will help grow the region

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 20, 2007 — In Pittsburgh, small businesses are the fastest-growing companies, and typically do the most hiring — but connecting job seekers with hiring companies has been difficult — until now.

Jessica Lee, host and founder of "Entrepreneurial Thursdays” Jazz, Soul & Blues Happy Hour Show and the advisory board of the successful seven-year-old weekly music and business networking event, support and endorse Human Connections of Pittsburgh to connect hiring companies with job seekers.

"After several years of Entrepreneurial Thursdays shows we realized that there's a gap between job seekers and entrepreneurial companies that are actively hiring executives and employees," Jessica said. “Human Connections is an important answer to this challenge."

"As a young professional committed to growing the city and region, I believe Human Connections of Pittsburgh is a vital initiative," said Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. "I heartily endorse this effort to keep talented young people in the region by connecting them with employers who need their help."

Danette O'Connell is a founder and managing director of Human Connections of Pittsburgh. She also is an advisory board member of Entrepreneurial Thursdays and a founder of several local businesses, including two employment agencies. Danette O’Connell states Human Connections will have a weekly presence at the “Entrepreneurial Thursdays’” event to connect hiring companies with qualified candidates.

"We want to give talented Pittsburghers and dynamic Pittsburgh companies regular opportunities to cut through the clutter and find each other," she said. "Entrepreneurial Thursdays is already a strong, informal networking event for employers and job seekers; we're taking it to the next level."
